Overview Of Indira Awas Yojana
- Government launched The Indira Awas Yojana in the year 1985-86 and the scheme is only a form or part of the rural Landless Employment Guarantee Scheme.
- The government launched this scheme to provide equal accommodation to the people living in rural areas.
- Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) is considered as a sub plan of Jawahar Rozgar Yojana (JRY). Initially, the Indira Awaas Yojana was allocated only 6% by JRY, which was later doubled by JRY.
- Both the Central Government and the State Government have contributed their contribution by distributing funds to the scheme in the ratio of 75:25.
- Sikkim and the North-Eastern states have contributed in the ratio of 90:10 by allocating funds to this scheme.
- Government launched this scheme to provide shelter to the people who are below the poverty level.
- The government decided to invest 45,000 for making house in plain areas and Rs 48,500 to invest for making houses in mountain areas.
- On 1st April 2013 government incerease the fund to Rs 70,000 and Rs 75,000.
- The beneficiaries of Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) can also take a loan advantage of up to Rs 20,000 on the annual interest of 4% only to build a house.
Main Features Of Indira Awas Yojana
- Under the scheme government will give 75 percent pretence to the people who doesn’t have house and 25 percent to the people living below the poverty line during allocation of fund.
- Under this scheme, generally the allocation of houses is in the name of women or husband and wife.
- For emergency situations like natural disasters or riots etc., government will keep 5 percent of the total amount seperate. You can easily operate this amount from one state to another.
Coverage Of Indira Awas Yojana
- From the year 1985 to now the government has constructed 25.2 million houses under Indira Awas Yojana.
- There was expectation to construct 60 lakh houses in the whole country from the year 2005-06 to 2008-09.
- This plan has created more than 71.76 lakh houses, out of the target, spending 21720.39 crores in the certain period.
- The target of this plan is to construct nearly 120 lakh houses for the next five years from the year 2009-10 i.e.
- During the second phase, government has constructed about 85 lakh houses in the last three years.
